From One Boat Owner’s Dream to a Thriving Global Community: The HR-Club Story

The journey of how a single Hallberg-Rassy owner’s vision became a digital harbor for over 1,450 boats worldwide

It All Started with “La Vela”

Picture this: It’s 2008, and I’ve just become the proud owner of my dream boat – a stunning Hallberg-Rassy 342 that I christened “La Vela.” Like many new HR owners, I was absolutely smitten with my vessel, but I quickly realized something was missing. Where was the community? Where could I connect with fellow HR enthusiasts to share knowledge, swap stories, and learn from their experiences?

That’s when the seed of HR-Club was planted. What started as a personal quest to find my tribe of Hallberg-Rassy lovers has grown into something far beyond what I ever imagined.

Building on a Foundation of Innovation

My journey into the world of sailing communities wasn’t accidental. With a software engineering degree earned back in 1992 and nearly three decades of freelancing experience since 1998, I’ve always been driven by an entrepreneurial spirit. There’s something powerful about combining technical know-how with genuine customer service – it’s a combination that has served me well in building businesses that actually serve their communities.

Where the Magic Happens: Værftet in Køge

Today, the heart of HR-Club beats from an unexpected location – a transformed old boatyard in Køge, Denmark. I run an office community called Værftet (“The Yard”) at https://Vaerftet.biz, where 20 freelancers have found their professional home. It’s beautifully ironic that a digital sailing community is managed from a space where boats were once built and repaired.

With a dedicated team of three helping me develop and maintain the HR-Club website, many of our biggest decisions happen in our meeting room overlooking the harbor. You can see our space at https://vaerftet.biz/lokaler/meetingroom/ – it’s where the concept of connecting sailors digitally comes to life in a very physical space.

What We’ve Built Together

The numbers speak for themselves, but they tell only part of the story. We’ve welcomed over 1,450 boats into our digital marina! Our platform now allows you to:

  • Register as a skipper and showcase your beloved HR
  • Browse as a “hangaround” if you’re still dreaming of ownership
  • Create your sailor profile with your photo and boat’s story
  • Build stunning galleries with photos and videos of your adventures
  • Explore our fleet by boat category, location, and specifications

The technical foundation we’ve built is robust and growing. For those who appreciate the digital side of things, we’re proud of our Domain Rating of 18, supported by 5,600 backlinks from 84 linking websites. More importantly, we’re seeing more sailors discover us every day.

The Future is Even Brighter

We’re putting the finishing touches on what might be our most exciting feature yet – the “Add to Market” functionality. Soon, you’ll be able to list your HR for sale directly through our community, connecting with buyers who already understand and appreciate these magnificent vessels.

But HR-Club is just the beginning. This platform serves as the flagship for over 40 online sailing communities cataloged on https://Boat-Clubs.net. And for those moments when you need quick answers to boat questions, our AI assistant at https://BoatBuddy.ai is standing by to help.

A Personal Thank You

What started as one sailor’s search for community has become a global network of Hallberg-Rassy enthusiasts. Every boat added to our registry, every photo shared, every connection made between sailors – it all validates that original vision from 2008.

Whether you’re a seasoned HR owner or someone dreaming of joining our ranks, you have a place in our community. After all, the best part of owning a Hallberg-Rassy isn’t just the boat itself – it’s the incredible people you meet along the way.

Stay tuned to this blog for more updates as we continue to grow and evolve. The wind is in our sails, and the horizon looks promising indeed.

Fair winds and following seas,

HR 31 Mk I: The "Cadillac of Sailboats"
A visit with Hans Rysgaard and the wisdom of choosing the right boat! Through the Eyes of a Passionate Owner! When sailors speak of the “Cadillac of sailboats,” they’re often referring to Hallberg Rassy yachts. These Swedish-built vessels have earned their reputation through decades of exceptional craftsmanship, seaworthiness, and attention to detail. Among the yard’s most beloved models is the HR 31 Mk I, a boat that perfectly embodies the philosophy of “just enough boat” – large enough to cruise comfortably, yet manageable enough to sail regularly. Meeting Hans Rysgaard and “Min Amanda” Recently, we had the privilege of visiting Hans Rysgaard at Langelinie Marina in Denmark, just 250 meters from the famous Little Mermaid statue. Hans, born in 1940, is the proud owner of “Min Amanda,” a beautiful Hallberg Rassy 31 Mk I that exemplifies why this model has captured the hearts of sailors worldwide. “I’ve always wanted a...
